Cheder
Our Cheder runs every Sunday morning during term time from
10:00am to 12:30pm at a local school. At present there are
over 50 pupils, aged from 5 to 12, and a high teacher pupil
ratio. The aims of the Cheder are to teach children to read
and understand basic Hebrew, to give a grounding in Jewish
values and history, to give an introduction to prayer, the
prayer book and spirituality and to encourage the development
of close peer group friendships. Further information and a
prospectus are available from our
Cheder Head
Teacher.
Education for
Teens
SAMS is now offering a special Bar/Bat
Mitzvah course for kids in Years 7 and 8, which is run by
Joel Stanley. For more details, please contact our
Cheder Head Teacher.
SAMS runs a
GCSE Religious Education (Jewish Studies) course which is
open to teenagers and adults. For more information, or to

Family Education (CAFÉ)
We are fortunate to be able to offer CAFÉ (Community and
Family Education) programmes to members. Café brings
together adults and children for unique intergenerational
learning. Recent Café have included Purim and Chanukah
inspired programmes.
Adult Education
We run a number of Adult Education sessions through the shul,
details of which can be found in the diary. A wide range of
adult education courses are also available to the community
through The Learning Circle, an adult education programme
jointly supported by Radlett & Bushey Reform Synagogue,
Hertsmere Progressive Synagogue, Kol Chai Hatch End Jewish
Community, SAMS and Spiro Ark. Please
contact the shul for
more information.
Explanatory Services & Shiurim
In order to
help people to be able to follow our Shabbat morning
services, SAMS regularly holds Explanatory Services, where
clarification is given on the major parts of the services.
Shiurim (study sessions) are also offered periodically on
various topics such as the background and meaning of a
relevant Torah portion or an analysis of the content and
structure of the services.
Limmud & Yom Masorti
A number
of stimulating educational conferences occur throughout the
year, with programmes designed for both individuals and
families. Particularly popular are the December Limmud
conference in Nottingham, the Yom Masorti conference in
November in London and the annual Springtime study weekend 'Yichud'
in Wales.
