St Albans Masorti Synagogue

Humble Beginnings

SAMS was started by

just three families,

6 Adults and

7 Children...

We didn’t have any other members.

We didn’t have any books.

We didn’t have a Rabbi.

We didn’t have any scrolls.

We didn’t have a teacher for cheder.

We didn’t have an administrator.

We just had a belief in our Jewish traditions and a hope that we could build a centre for Jewish life in St Albans – for the rapidly growing Jewish population in the surrounding area, and for our children.

A community of people who would support each other, reach out to each other, worship, celebrate and learn together and help each other live a better life within SAMS and in the world.
